Confused Flour Beetles

The Confused Flour Beetle (Tribolium confusum) is a reddish-brown species of darkling beetle that has reputation for infesting flour and grain products.  Caution must be taken to contain this prolific insect correctly; as Females lay an average of 450 eggs that will hatch in 5-12 days.  When kept in optimal temperatures (32oC to 35oC), larvae can reach maturity in 4 months.  Keep your colony in a well-ventilated plastic container with flour, away from direct heat and light.  This set and forget feeder should be left alone for a minimum of 3 months for your colony to have time to establish.  Before you know it, you will have an abundance of feeders that your small amphibians and arachnids will relish.
